Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Dr. Seuss has been a hot topic around here for the past few months.  Amelia is at the point where she can read several of his books cover to cover without ANY help! Her reading has grown tremendously this year!

And her favorite book at the moment?  The Lorax!  Such a great book with a great message.  I honestly love everything about this book and Amelia does too.  We cannot wait to see the Lorax in action on the big screen!


So, we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday a little early by catching the play "Seussical the Musical" at the Florissant Civic Center.  Jason decided to surprise Amelia with green eggs and bacon ham for breakfast.  She chomped the "ham" but wanted nothing to do with the eggs.

Luckily, post-play we decided to give another kind of green eggs and bacon ham a try.  No problems getting this one down...

Down the Drain

I am starting to feel like nearly every one of my posts includes a Pinterest reference.  This is no exception.  We are big "Wacky Wednesday" people around here and for the past two years or so, I have tried to do something small, but "wacky" each Wednesday.  It may be a turning some of our hanging pictures upside down while she is at school.  Or, making her bed while she is gone with her pillow at the opposite end than usual.  Or, like this morning, placing her breakfast on the table in the spot usually reserved for Henry (and, in turn, letting her sit in his booster seat to eat her breakfast--Henry slept in BIG time this morning). 

A couple Wednesdays ago, I threw some activated glow sticks in the bath and both kids were beyond thrilled.  Seriously, I am not sure that I have ever done something so simple and received a reaction so big.  Knowing that the glow stick bath couldn't be beat, I headed to Pinterest for another fun idea.  I came up with bath tub paint and although I almost instantly messed up the paint by trying to place the muffin tin in the very shallow water thinking it would sink (it didn't and the paint was immediately watered down), the kids still had fun with it.  I will just have to repeat it down the road one wacky Wednesday night. 

Valentine's Day 2012

More often than not, my posts seem to be contain about half of the pictures I would like them to.  For instance, here are a couple of pictures from Valentine's Day, but I've not a single picture from Amelia's party, our heart shaped pizza, or the flowers Jason bought for me. I don't even have a picture with a single person in it.

But, I do have a picture of a few of the special decorations we used this year.  I saw this "Heart Attack" idea on Pinterest and decided it was a great idea for my kids.  They woke on Valentine's Day to hearts on their door with things we love about them.  This, obviously, was more meaningful to Amelia, but Henry really enjoyed looking at his and then soon thereafter, tearing them down.

And around the time of Valentine's Day, Amelia was also celebrating the 100th day of school, so we decided to hang 100 hearts from the kitchen ceiling.  It's a little difficult to get a good picture of such a thing, but it was really a fun decoration and one I plan on using next year too.  Amelia is getting really good at cutting out hearts (although she lost steam after about the 20th heart, so it was a week long project).

That night, Amelia and I made a heart-shaped pizza for dinner and Jason brought home flowers for me and some small gifts for the kids.  Pretty low key--just the way we like it. 

Driving In

The kids enjoyed a little drive in movie awhile back.  We spent the afternoon transforming some old cardboard boxes into "cars" courtesy of some paper plates and yellow construction paper.  Then, we drove our real car to the redbox and rented "Dolphin Tale".  Jason made a yummy dinner of appetizers and the cards enjoyed popcorn in their vehicles during the movie. 

The "cars" are stored away downstairs, just waiting for another opportunity to visit the drive-in!

Words with (non) Friends

I am seriously addicted to the Words with Friends game on my iPhone (see, I was playing at 10:37 pm when, clearly, I should have been sleeping!).  I play mostly strangers and a handful of friends.  This happened to be my best all-time play to date, so I had to take a screen shot. 

For some reason "Krazzy Luv" resigned after that play though.  Apparently he/she wasn't nearly as pleased with me as I was with myself.

Winter Walk

 A non-typical warm(er) winter day paired with a day off school (for Amelia) and work (for Jason) led to a little exploration at a local park.  Amelia had to break in her new magnifying glass and binoculars.

In the end, however, it was me who made a discovery.  I thought with the warmth that maybe if I dug a little in the dirt I may be able to find some small bug or worm for Amelia to observe with her magnifying glass.  But, what I unearthed was a HUGE, nasty roach-looking bug (like almost the size of my palm).  After a little screaming on my part, we went along our way observing leaves and sticks instead.

Henry was only interested in burning some steam....and that, he did!

 This year's class Valentine Day cards were the easiest yet!

 We took a picture of her pretending to hold something, then printed them out.

 Then, we added a sucker and a construction paper heart where she signed her name.  And done!

How Dry I Am

Poor kid has dry skin so bad this year that she has to get slathered up with lotion every night and wear socks on her hands to bed.

And if that isn't bad enough, the poor kid's mom takes a picture of her while she is sleeping and shares it online.

 There is NOTHING like an afternoon shopping trip to the antique mall with my girl.

Thirty-three!

Just a week after Henry's birthday, I had mine!  The 33rd one this time.  My wonderful mother took Henry for the day so that I could enjoy a pedicure and quiet lunch by myself.  After an afternoon nap, I picked up Amelia and we headed to Bread Co. to celebrate her fantastic report card and my free Bread Co. birthday freebies.  She picked out the free pastry--a cinnamon roll the size of her head!

After gorging ourselves, we headed to my parent's house and dinner and a reunion with Henry.  Apparently he had taken a 4 hour nap in my absence!  Jason joined us there after work bringing flowers and some cupcakes from Jilly's.  Mmmmmm.

It was a great little day with beautiful weather, delicious treats, and lovely people!
